Regional Touring

Regional Touring

A cornerstone of boorda yeyi is PICA’s commitment to making immersive arts accessible across Western Australia.

Each year, following its premiere at PICA, the Immersive Arts Commission will bring groundbreaking, experiential artworks to communities across Western Australia through a regional touring program that breaks down barriers to access and opens new avenues for arts engagement. In showcasing innovative, high-tech immersive works in regional settings, boorda yeyi provides remote communities with unparalleled access to cutting-edge art forms, building empathy and creative inspiration while promoting cultural exchange and appreciation. It also reduces geographic and social barriers, ensuring that more people across WA can experience the transformative power of immersive art.

Accompanying the touring artwork each year are comprehensive engagement and learning programs developed by PICA in collaboration with ART ON THE MOVE. These include artist-led talks and bespoke learning materials designed to deepen audience understanding of this diverse medium. Targeting a wide range of participants—from the public to artists and students—these resources provide valuable insights into the artistic process and the themes explored in the commissioned works.

A key component of the touring program is skills training, delivered by PICA in partnership with touring artists and other skilled practitioners. These professional development workshops, tailored to regional artists, cultural workers and community leaders, focus on building technical expertise in creating immersive artworks. Topics include digital storytelling, technical production and integrating new technologies into artistic practice. By equipping participants with practical skills and fostering collaboration, the training program enhances digital literacy and helps ensure a sustainable future for immersive arts in regional WA.

Through boorda yeyi, PICA and its partners are driving long-term benefits for Western Australia’s creative communities. By expanding access, nurturing talent and fostering innovation, the Immersive Arts Commission strengthens the foundations for a vibrant, inclusive and diverse cultural landscape across the state. This program not only prepares artists and audiences to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape but also enriches community well-being and sparks meaningful conversations about the intersections of technology, art and storytelling.
