Intensive Mentorship

Intensive Mentorship

This 3-month Intensive Mentorship is designed for artists to have the opportunity to work as part of a creative team to nurture their concepts into tangible immersive artwork prototypes. The artist’s idea leads the project, supported by the technical expertise of a creative team and advice from a selection of industry mentors.

Where needed, participating artists may be paired by PICA with developers, technologists and/or programmers suitable to their proposal. Alternatively, artists may already have a preferred technical team they’d like to include in their application.

Over a three-month period, these teams will engage in self-directed and collaborative research and production towards their prototype’s development. Participants will have the opportunity to test and iterate their concepts and receive feedback from a variety of mentors.

This program acts as a laboratory-style development period for artists looking to work in an interdisciplinary way to design, test, prototype and evaluate an idea and expand their practice to contribute to West Australian’s growing immersive arts industry.

Participants will meet in person and online throughout the program to share their progress. At the conclusion of the program, an Open Studio event will be held at PICA where participants can share their work with industry and the general public.

The Intensive Mentorship includes:

  • A fee of $7000 for a 3-month development period.
  • Fees to support two key technical contributors (developer, technologist, programmer, etc).
  • Monthly cohort meetings to share project progress and receive feedback.
  • A series of guest mentors who share knowledge and provide feedback at the monthly cohort meetings.
  • An Open Studio presentation of the prototypes at PICA, with the opportunity to receive feedback from industry representatives and the general public.
