Immersive Arts Commission

Immersive Arts Commission

The annual Immersive Arts Commission supports Australian artists to create major new immersive artworks at the intersection of contemporary art and emerging technologies.

The selected artists will demonstrate both artistic excellence and considered approaches to audience engagement – understanding that immersive work requires meaningful viewer participation to achieve its full potential. The commissioned works will be premiered as part of PICA’s Summer program before being toured across Western Australia in partnership with ART ON THE MOVE.

Key Considerations

  • The commission welcomes projects that address critical social and political issues, offering innovative, technology-driven perspectives on contemporary concerns.
  • We invite ambitious, highly creative and experimental immersive projects tailored for a gallery setting, with no restrictions on duration or format.
  • Interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged, with the primary outcome being an artwork employing immersive technologies.

Production Timeline

  • Projects must be ready to begin production in September 2025 to allow for a full 6-month development period.
  • The final artwork will be presented as part of PICA’s Summer program in February 2026.
