In this talk as part of the 2026 Foundational Symposium, Friends with Computers (April Phillips, Jordan East & Pat Younis) share the intentions and process of making Under Waters, the inaugural boorda yeyi Immersive Arts Commission. Drawing on collaborative practice the team will share how conceptual development, First peoples knowledges, real-time methods and response to institutional collections shaped the work’s production. As part of this session, participants will be invited to experience Under Waters in situ, using the artwork itself as a live case study in building large-scale immersive environments. Then, join a hands on participatory workshop to share the accessible smartphone workflow to capture photogrammetry scans of real world
objects suitable as 3D assets for hybrid-virtual worlds.
